Step 1: Edit Preferences
If this is your first article, you may wish to edit preferences
used to display your article. These include: your pen name, news
locale, and profile image. If preferences have already been updated,
skip to step 2.
A "pen name" is the formal name displayed as the author of your
work. It can be almost any name you choose, so long as it does not
identify someone other than yourself or your organization. Also,
the system will not let you choose a name that is currently in use.
The "News Locale" is a state, city, or region that represents your
target audience. This locale is used as the default location for
publishing your work. It also helps in establishing credibility
with local readers.
The "Profile Image" is displayed along side author details for
articles on Jabberpress. This image is slightly larger than the
"icon image" used to identify your user account.
To access preference, select the "Personal Profile" tab. Then,
select "Preferences" under the "Account Manager" menu. Click the
"Edit" button and enter a values. Click "Save" when finished.
Step 2: Add a new article
Select the "Journal" tab at the top of your App Manager. Then,
select "Articles" from the sidebar menu (selected by default). Now
click the "New" button at the top right of the article table.
On the "Add Article" page, you will need to enter, at minimum,
the title of your article, the article text, and the subject or
story that inspired it.
By default, your user name will be shown as the articles "author".
If you created a "pen name" in step 1, the user name will
be converted to your pen name when the article is saved. Optionally,
the field can be left blank. |
Step 3: Saving your work
For convenience, the article entry form has a checkbox labeled
"Publish Now". Saving an article with this box checked will post
it immediately to your "Home Page" and "News Locale" indexes. After
clicking the "Save" button, continue to step 4. If you
chose the "Publish Now" option, and do not wish to set additional
properties, you are done!
Step 4: Set Article Properties
Once you have saved the initial article, you may edit the article
properties. These include header image, keywords, media references,
comment preferences, etc.. For descriptions, move your mouse cursor
over the label name for each field in the "Article Config" form.
The description will display in the bottom window.
Step 5: Publish your article
To include an article in our search engine, it must be published
to one or more locales. A locale is any state, city, or region where
there are people interested in your article. At minimum, an article
should be published to the authors "Home Page" and "News"
locales.
To add locales, click the "publish" button on the top right of
the "Article Config" page. On the left side of the "published Locales"
table, click the "world" icon to select a desired locale. Then,
click the "add" button. Continue adding locales as necessary. A
standard account can publish in up to 20 locales per article; with
over 43,000 to choose from.
Finally, to post your article for public viewing, you must change
the article access to "public" and its status to "active". To do
this, return to the "Article Config" page and click the "Edit" button.
Once all changes have been made, click the "save" button.
That's it. You have started!
